MDPS: Multimedia Distributed Pervasive Secure Systems: a Comprehensive Framework for International Scientific Cooperation
For more information, please refer to the IRIXYS Web site
Since 2007, the DRIM team and the DIMIS chair of the University of Passau (Pr. Harald Kosch), and the SESAR lab of the Università degli Studi of Milan (Pr. Ernesto Damiani) have jointly led the "Multimedia Distributed and Pervasive Secure Systems (MDPS) doctoral college" supported by the "French-German University" (DFH-UFA ) and the "French-Italian University" (UIF-UFI).
MDPS strongly connects the researchers of the three teams through a three-sided long-term program:
PhD-Track: MDPS proposes an international PhD-Track which includes:
(i) a double master/engineer diploma jointly delivered by INSA of Lyon (“diplôme d’ingénieur”) and Passau University (“master in Informatik”). With a strong focus on research, this double diploma aims at preparing excellent students to a future PhD by proposing advanced research and methodological courses
(ii) an international PhD program, organized by our three teams, which provides students with unique conditions to develop their research in an international context, especially in the framework of co-supervised theses (“co-tutelles”).
Research Agenda: MDPS conducts an integrated joint research program that paves the way for the scientific collaborative activities developed by the partner teams. This program is supported by national and international grants (see Grants)
Industrial and Socio-economic Partnerships: MDPS has established long-term relationships both with multinational and small-size innovative companies
With now a 7 years feedback, MDPS appears as a definite success:
MDPS has been distinguished two times by UFA-DFH as most “innovative and exemplary” German-French doctoral college and PhD-Track. These distinctions were given after thorough evaluations and led to additional financial support for the student mobility
Research grants have been obtained which support MDPS activities, see also Grants:
from the EU FP7 (EEXCESS IP project)
from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (PhD-net program) (2008-2011)
from the German-French University and the Italian-French University
from the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education (international PhD program)
from the French CNRS (Integrated Project of Scientific Cooperation (PICS) program) (2011-2013)
from the Bavarian-French Center of Scientific Cooperation (BFHZ-CCUFB)
from Région Rhône-Alpes, Land of Bavaria and Region Lombardy
More than 50 papers have been co-written and published in high-standing conferences and journals; ~20 collaborative PhDs, incl. ~15 co-tutelle PhDs, have been started; 12 workshops have been co-organized.
Both the double master/engineer and the PhD programs have demonstrated an important attractivity
