The EthicsAI Project

The industrial and economic development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is essential because it allows us to respond to environmental and societal issues of great importance, such as sustainable energy (Smart Grid) or personal assistance, issues that we are targeting in this project, as a case study and application. The development of ethical AI is at the heart of debates initiated by academics, industry and civil society. It is therefore important to develop ethical AI, a property that is indispensable for its acceptance by society and necessary for its authorisation at the regulatory level.

The ETHICS.AI project aims to propose an intelligent, responsible system, interacting with humans, capable of autonomously developing an embodied ethic within the framework of this interaction, in order to adopt behaviours adapted to situations and in conformity with human ethical behaviour patterns.

Its originality lies in this "embodied ethic", which designates a set of ethical behaviour patterns acquired through the interaction of the intelligent system with an environment, as opposed to predefined ethical shackles outside any context. Whether these patterns are predefined or co-constructed by interaction between the human and the machine, the definition of a responsible system capable of adopting behaviour based on these patterns in a given situation remains an unresolved problem to date.
