Data: Who's in Control?

Over the last years, the intemediaires - Google in the field of web search, Facebook in social relations, etc. - have grown tremendously. They are so important nowadays that some of them challenge governements when it comes to defining the level of protection of data or their modes of access.

My talk will briefly define and explore the economy of intermediaries. I will primarily define intermediaries as data industries and analyse the issues they raise, especially from the point of view of data governance from the perspective of institutions and users. I will then explore a few technical opportunities to address these issues.
