In this talk, we will present an innovative technique supporting accuracy control in compressed multidimensional data cubes. The proposed technique can be efficiently used in Quality-of-Answer-based OLAP tools, where OLAP users/applications and Data Warehouse servers are allowed to mediate on the accuracy of (approximate) answers, similar to what happens with the quality of services mechanism in QoS-based systems. The output of this technique is represented by a synopsis data structure, called D-Syn, which embeds innovative accuracy control features starting from some characteristics of data distributions of the input data cube. We will also present an experimental evaluation of the proposed technique on multidimensional data cubes of different distributions, and in comparison with similar data cube compression techniques.
