Enterprises today, large and small, are moving towards the modern data stack: a suite of data integration tools which are hosted in the cloud and require minimal technical configuration by users. This is revolutionizing the legacy ways of integrating data. A concern I have is that we will continue the same ol’ same ol’ with data, moving it between different silos and further emphasizing an application-centric world and a software wasteland, except that this time it will be in the cloud. We continue to forget an essential ingredient: knowledge! Data and knowledge need to be at the center of an organization. In this talk, I will argue that knowledge graphs fulfill this need. We need to understand how to best combine people, processes and technology. Our experience indicates that there is an incremental and agile ‘crawl, walk, run’ approach to combine these three things. It’s time to shake things up because a knowledge revolution is coming!
